On 18.02.2026 a bagpiper visited the 7. grade of our school. After the students had the topic Scotland for a short time it was so exciting to meet someone who knows about the history, the traditions and about the bagpipe. He explained that during the middle ages Scotland often had conflicts with England. The last battle was in 1746 and after that many scottish traditions were forbidden for some time. Bagpiper Harry told us about the bagpipers in the fight. Since the Scots had only a few weapons at the time of the war they used the bagpipes as a weapon too. Since the bagpipes were unfamiliar to the English and the sound seemed threatening. The English fled. That’s why the bagpipe was an important war weapon. The German warriors named the scottish warriors ,,The ladies from hell“. Harry wore the traditional ,,Kilt“. The kilt is a medium length skirt that is worn only by men. His kilt costs 400-500$. It can have many different patterns called: Tartan pattern. At the end Harry played some Scottish songs on his bagpipe. I think the best was that Harry can not only play traditional songs but also ,,Alle meine Entchen“. We learned a lot and we had al lot of fun.
